This new facility will provide the Glenroy community with a welcoming, nature-inspired environment to learn, grow, and celebrate.
The Glenroy Community Hub now houses the Glenroy Library and the Glenroy Memorial Kindergarten. It also includes maternal and child health services, community health providers, neighborhood learning, and childcare services. By co-locating these essential community services, the hub brings together diverse groups and fosters inter-generational connections.
As the first community hub in Australia to achieve Passive House certification, the Glenroy Community Hub showcases the City of Moreland’s dedication to leading sustainable design practices.
DesignInc and Merri-bek City Council envisioned this project as a strategic effort to break the cycle of generational disadvantage. This initiative illustrates how community buildings can drive social transformation and bolster community resilience. The hub acts as a ‘social connector,’ raising awareness of Council’s numerous services and creating opportunities for community interaction across various services and activities.
Guided by the principle of ‘Connecting the community through a garden experience,’ biophilic design principles have been utilized to create meaningful, restorative, and uplifting connections with nature. This design inspires and welcomes the community, providing a space where they can learn, grow, celebrate, and heal.
